The name floats off my tongue and ends in smirks and giggles – ‘teacher’s pet purple’. You can thank PARTYSKIRTS – brainchild of the bubbly Armstrong sisters for the crafty colour naming. Their silk taffeta skirts scream lady-like, flirty fun. So naturally, when figuring out what to wear to Vancouver Fashion Week, this was my A-grade pick.
The first time I stepped into this classy number, I felt like a Barbie-princess cake-topper. And I kid you not; I actually did have one of those delightfully conspicuous cakes as a child. My sweet Aunt E meticulously crafted a billowing lilac icing-skirt around one of my favourite dolls in celebration of my third birthday and I was ecstatic. It’s pretty accurate to say the feeling presented again here once I carefully pulled up the hidden zip. The next most reasonable thing to do was twirl around my apartment (of course).
Twirling complete, I assembled the rest of the outfit with the skirt in mind. I snagged a black crop with a satin feel and the teensiet flecks of sparkle in the material. The gather in the front of the top, combined with the cut-outs on the side give it a more structured feel. To tie it all up, I went for black and gold accessories – woven black Vivienne Westwood tweed purse with chain detailing and my beloved sparkly pumps. To show you how it all came together, these photos are from right outside the Vancouver Fashion week tent – moments before stepping inside. Fit for a cake I daresay!
Next post, I’ll be taking you inside the thick of things in the tent and on the catwalk (yay!). In the meantime (now that I’ve probably got your mind on cake) grab a slice of something nice and feel free to oogle the PARTYSKIRT collections here. Which party skirt is your favourite? Bet you can’t choose just one!
