The Deighton Cup

The weekend brought a classy daytime adventure peppered with fascinators, bowties and cocktails to Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver. The Deighton Cup, a namesake tribute to John (Gassy Jack) Deighton, pays homage to this whisky-bearing entrepreneur who set up his saloon in now Gastown, a pivotal locale from which the city of Vancouver grew and evolved.

Produced by The Social Concierge and DroskiTurner, the day’s events fostered a playground to celebrate the history of the city and oogle at not only the horses, but also the swanky hats worn by the people betting on them. Did I mention there was a Veuve Clicquot champagne stage? A la bubbles (gas), perhaps dear old Jack may have approved.

Now what’s a girl to wear amidst this festivity! I went with a fiery red number covered in floral lace cut-outs. And the feathers atop my head? Well in a burst of DIY frenzy, I made this one myself.

Hats off to a fun day at the racecourse!
