Powerful Ingredients of Future Fashion Design
When CGTrader asked me to weigh in on the topic of the Future of Design, I immediately thought they were nuts. I didn’t attend design school, I’m not a designer and I don’t own a clothing line (#goals). However, instead of focusing on what I don’t have, I flipped it around and decided to hone in on the positive (I recently attended a Tony Robbins talk so putting these teachings into practice here)! 😉
The topic is “Designing for the future: trends we need to consider now”. While I’m not a design expert by any means whatsoever, I am a consumer. Through my pursuit of developing my own style story, I build my closet based on items that I connect with. Perhaps this can resonate with those of you who are also constantly searching for their favourite pieces. In this vein, I took a look at some of the brands I’ve worked with over the years, and pulled specific style moments that I believe contain hallmarks of strong design. These elements have a timeless nature to them, commitment to creating a bigger impact, and in my opinion are powerful ingredients of future fashion design.
SKYE Footwear
SKYE Footwear marries aesthetic with function in a truly beautiful way. Not to mention, they care about the earth too. Design combining <aesthetic + function + care for the planet> is incredibly admirable.
In their words, “We’ve spent most of 2 years designing and redesigning, searching and testing materials, never sacrificing comfort, never sacrificing style, never at the expense of poor labor conditions, and never at the cost of our precious planet.”

NoMiNoU Designs
Not only are these althleisure-wear designs gorgeous, but they are also made out of a blend of “12% spandex and 88% recycled polyester, which is made from recycled PET (a 100% post-consumer recycled raw material that is derived from recycled post-water bottles)”. NoMiNoU also works with international artists via their Global Artists Initiative to celebrate cultures and support emerging artists.
In their words, they “encourage women everywhere to stand proud in their originality and celebrate their strength and sense of purpose” and “At a time when the world seems to be deeply divided, we undertake this [Global Artists] initiative with the intent to unite people through art and encourage acceptance of other cultures by celebrating our individual differences.”

Urban Expressions
Urban Expressions makes luxury vegan designs – that’s right. Vegan. Their products are certified by Vegan.org and PETA. I’ve personally been a massive fan of their beautiful handbags ever since I was introduced to the brand and use their bags almost every day! From a #BossBabe tote big enough to fit my laptop, to a sleek cross-body for a night out, their design range covers all my needs.

Zao Swimwear makes luxury swim pieces that also have a timeless and elegant approach.
In their words, “Our pieces are ethically made in Colombia always supporting fair trade. Offering fair wages, appropriate and safe facilities is our goal.”
